Helen D. (Bootsie) Baughman
The Helen D. (Booties) Baughman Memorial Fund is an unrestricted fund that was established by her life-long friend, Mrs. Gerald Boyd.
Mrs. Baughman, born in Brooksville, Misssissippi, moved to Portsmouth as a young child. She attended local schools and graduated from Portsmouth High School. She received her teaching certificate from Western College for Women in Oxford, Ohio.
Helen was married to H. E. Baughman, President of Detroit Steel Corporation. She was very active in Second Presbyterian Church and taught Sunday School there for fourty-four years and was head of the Junior Department. She joined the Church at age twelve and was a member for seventy-six years.
Helen was on the Board for the Home for Aged Women, the YMCA, and was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma. Helen was very community minded, and very supportive of Portsmouth.
