Gift of a Lifetime
Bill Weaver
Connie Weaver, wife of the late Bill Weaver, established this scholarship endowment with the Scioto Foundation to benefit a senior member of the Valley High School Boy's Basketball team who plans to attend a college or university. The first recipient of the award was selected in February, 2001, and was recognized during the Valley High School Spring Sports Banquet in March of 2001.
The late Bill Weaver was a 1964 graduate of Valley High School. While a student at Valley, Bill was an outstanding player for the high school basketball team. During his sophomore, junior, and senior years, Bill played on the varsity team. Mr. Bill Damron was his coach until his senior year. At that time his mentors became coach Ron Partridge and assistant coach, Dick Howard. Bill won many awards and honors in basketball that include being a member of the 1st team All SOC his junior and senior years. In both his junior and senior years, he was chosen as the team's Most Valuable Player.
Mr. Weaver was an army veteran and served in the Vietnam War, from which he received a Purple Heart. Bill was formerly employed at the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility in Lucasville, Ohio, as a Corrections Officer until he retired in April of 2000.
When asked, "Why did you create this fund?" Mrs. Weaver replied, "This is something that Bill had wanted to do and I needed to do this for him." Throughout his life Mr. Weaver never lost his love of the game nor his ties to Valley High School.
