Gift of a Lifetime Portsmouth Symphony Orchestra
The Portsmouth Symphony Orchestra Endowment Fund is an organizational endowment established by the Portsmouth Symphony Orchestra (PSO) for perpetual programmatic support.
Founded in 1993, the mission of the PSO is to “enhance the enjoyment and appreciation of music in the local community through the provision of live orchestral and choral performances.†Approximately sixty-five volunteer performers led by the baton of conductor, Carl Daehler, give four regular performances during the year. These include the “Classics Concert,†the “July 4th Celebration,†the “Pops Concert,†and the “Songs of the Seasonâ€. Along the way, the orchestra features talented performers and special guest artists as they continually expand their offerings to the community.
The PSO is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization governed by a Board of Directors. Founding endowment board members included: David Erwin, President; Cheryl Albrecht, Vice President; Saundra Wheeler, Secretary; Beverly Cain, Treasurer; Tim Scheurer, Mary Beth Fike, Dick Grimm, Linda Greenhill, Chip Maillet, and Gail Miller.
The PSO is pleased to enjoy substantial support from the community through season memberships, corporate sponsorships, concert attendance, in-kind contributions from area business and individuals, and support from the City of Portsmouth (Hotel/Motel tax), and organizations like Shawnee State University, the Southern Ohio Medical Center, the Scioto Foundation and various friends and sponsors. According to Dave Erwin, then PCO President, “The Board of Directors of the Portsmouth Community Orchestra (PCO) established this endowment as a vehicle to provide long-term financial stability for the organization to ensure its future.â€
