Gift of a Lifetime.
Ginger Rudd Phillips
The Ginger Rudd Phillips Memorial Scholarship Fund was created through the contributions of friends and family and dedication of lifelong friend Mrs. Angel Romanello.
The scholarship assists graduating seniors from Valley High School that have been active in their community and demonstrate financial need. More importantly, the scholarship recipient must exhibit the qualities that the late Mrs. Phillips possessed: that of a highly self-motivated individual or “hard worker†who did not quit in the face of adversity. A selection committee comprised of (3) members of the Rudd/Phillips family, a representative from Valley Elementary School, and the Valley High School Guidance Counselor will annually select the scholarship recipient. The first recipient was chosen in the spring of 2004.
Ginger Lee Rudd Phillips, daughter of Dorsey and Joyce Rudd, was born on September 7, 1961. She and her husband, Jeff, married in July of 1979. They have two children, A.J. Phillips and Jessica Philips Perkins.
Ginger graduated from Valley High School and received her Bachelor’s Degree from Ohio University. She received a Master's Degree in education from Rio Grande in 1999. For many years she drove a school bus for the Valley Local School District. During the last elven years, she taught in the Valley Local Schools.
According to Angel Romanello, longtime friend, “Ginger would want a scholarship in her name. Ginger had a special way of opening her heart to everyone. She loved life and saw each day as an opportunity. She always saw good and possibility in people, especially children. She loved teaching and helping friends and family when ever there was a need. With this scholarship, Ginger will be able to continue helping to educate the children she loved so much.â€
Valley Local School Board member, Dr. Charles Wilson stated, “Ginger Phillips was a super person, willing to do anything the District asked of her. A scholarship fund is exactly how she would want to be remembered. She cannot be replaced and will be missed by all, including the future kids who will not have the opportunity to benefit from her love of teaching.â€
