Arthur W. & Anne Hossman
Gift of a Lifetime
Anne Carson Hossman established the Arthur W. and Anne Carson Hossman Fund in 2003. It benefits the Southern Ohio Performing Arts Association. Anne created the fund because she values the art programs offered at the Vern Riffe Arts Center through the Southern Ohio Performing Arts Association, and she wants to be sure they continue in the future.
Art and Anne were both born and raised in Scioto County. Art graduated from Minford High School and received a teaching degree from Rio Grande. He started his teaching career in the Minford School District . Shortly after his marriage to Anne, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII. Upon discharge from the service, he enrolled at The Ohio State University where he received his Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Education majoring in Industrial Arts.
Upon graduation, he and Anne purchased a home in Sciotoville and Art returned to the Minford School System, this time as a teacher. He later taught in the Portsmouth City Schools, and at the time of his death, he taught at the Scioto County Joint Vocational School .
Anne is a graduate of East High School and Portsmouth Interstate Business College . She has an Associate Degree from Southern Business College. Prior to her marriage, Anne worked as a secretary in the Tom Williams Insurance Agency. When their son entered college, she decided to again go back to work and accepted the position as secretary to the principal at East High School . At the time of her retirement, Anne was secretary to the superintendent of the Portsmouth City Schools.
Anne is an active member of Cornerstone United Methodist Church and Hospice of Southern Ohio. For the past 18 years, she has actively volunteered in the bereavement area of Hospice of Southern Ohio. Anne is now an active and happy resident at Hill View.
Anne and Art have a son, Arthur W. Jr., of Grande Rapids, MI. He and his wife, Phyllis, have a daughter, Lynsey.
