Judge Evertt & Martha A. Burton
Gift of a Lifetime
The Judge Everett and Martha A. Burton Fund is an area-designed fund for the improvement of the educational and cultural level of our community. "We are natives of Scioto County and are grateful for the opportunities this area has provided our family. The Foundation provides a vehicle to pay back in some part this support. We chose the emerging arts community as an avenue to reach every Scioto County resident."
Everett Burton was a Scioto County Common Pleas Court Judge, Judge of the Portsmouth Municipal Court, and held the position of Prosecuting Attorney of Scioto County for 25 years. Judge Burton also maintained a private practice for 35 years. Everett served as past president of the National District Attorneys Association, the Ohio Prosecuting Attorneys Association, and Portsmouth Bar and Law Library Association. He was a member of the Ohio Crime Commission, the Portsmouth Metropolitan Housing Authority, and vice president of the Portsmouth Little Theatre Board. He was also the recipient of the Jaycee Young Man of the Year Award. Everett was a member and Elder of Second Presbyterian Church.
Mrs. Burton is on the Ohio Art Council, served as past president/member of the Board of Trustees and chairman of the membership, endowment, and exhibition sponsors of the Southern Ohio Museum. Mrs. Burton was co-chair of the $450,000 fund raising effort that established the Southern Ohio Museum, which opened in 1979.
Martha is also is a life-long member of Southern Ohio Medical Center Auxiliary, a member and past president of the Coterie Club, and past chairman of the Annual Charily Horse Show. Mrs. Burton founded the Lawyer's Wives Club in 1955 and served as the past president, treasurer, secretary, and committee chair for over 40 years.
