William A. Head
Gift of a Lifetime

The William A. Head Community Fund is an area-designated fund that benefits children's programs in Scioto County with an emphasis on low income children. Mr. Head, a local businesman and community leader, began his professional career at Prudential Insurance Company, and in 1954 Mr. Head and Mr. Carl S. "Red" Daniels started Daniels-Head Insurance Agency, an association groups liability business.

He was considered a visionary and leader in the field of association liability insurance, participating in the area of mass marketing. Mr. Head was a member of the Governor's Insurance Advisory Committee in 1963 and was founder of the National Association for Professional Group Insurance Agents.

Mr. Head served in the Army Air Corps during World War II, was a Kentucky Colonel and attended Ohio State University. He was a member of the Portsmouth Elks Lodge.

At the time of his death, he was chairman of the board and owner of the Head Insurance Company in Portsmouth and Daniel-Head Insurance Agency in Palm Spring, CA.

Mrs. Carolyn Head, Mrs. Julia Head Francis and Mr. William A. Head, Jr., established the fund noting, "Our father was always concerned for the children of this community who were without food, clothing, education and love. He often quietly gave to organizations who served this population. We are pleased to established a fund in his name to continue his way of caring for such children in the years to come."
