John C. Smith
Gift of a Lifetime

Mrs. Verona West Smith created the John C. Smith Community Fund in memory of her late husband. Mrs. Smith wished to provide a source of money to fund projects for the benefit of the community that Mr. Smith loved so well.

Mr. Smith was active in a number of community organizations during the 1950's, 1960's, and 1970's. He was a member of the board of Directors of the Chamber of Commerce, serving as its President during the A-plant development in the 1950s; served as President and a member of the Portsmouth City School Board; Director of Bank One, an elder and member of the First Presbyterian Church; He was the owner and president of the Smith Drug Company and Shawnee Family Restaurant.
